Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will close at Walt Disney World in August, ahead of a major transformation.
Disney World is preparing to launch an exciting mission upgrade to the beloved Tomorrowland attraction, with new character scenes, enhanced ride vehicles, and pimped-up blasters. A reopening date has not been announced, but here’s what to expect…
Meet Buddy
The most fun addition is Buddy, a brand-new character created through a collaborative effort between Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios. This enthusiastic support-bot will be the first face guests encounter as they prepare for their Star Command mission.
Designed to boost ranger morale, Buddy will conduct final system checks, provide mission encouragement, and offer guests a chance to fine-tune their blaster skills before the epic battle against the Evil Emperor Zurg begins.
Ride Vehicle Revamp

Ride vehicles are getting a makeover, too – sporting colours inspired by Buzz Lightyear and Star Command’s iconic aesthetic.
The most significant enhancement comes in the form of integrated video monitors, delivering real-time scoring updates and additional interactive features that will delight theme park enthusiasts and competitive gamers alike.
Mission Upgrade: Enhanced Blasters and Targets

Blaster technology takes centre stage in this exciting update, with new features designed to elevate the intergalactic mission. No more wondering where you’re aiming! The enhanced blasters will now feature:
- An always-on laser sight
- Two different colours per star cruiser
- New lighting effects
- Immersive sound and vibration feedback
The static Z targets will also receive a high-tech makeover, incorporating responsive technology that allows them to light up and react when hit. This upgrade not only improves gameplay but also opens the door for future innovative experiences that Imagineers are eager to explore.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Closure
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will undergo its transformation from August, reopening in Magic Kingdom sometime in 2026.
Space Rangers can look forward to a dramatically enhanced experience that promises more interactivity, precision, and excitement. Stay tuned for more updates from Star Command!
