Disney California Adventure has announced a “first-of-its-kind” popcorn bucket that uses embedded technology to react to different areas across both Anaheim theme parks.
The Pixar Pal-A-Round bucket is modelled after the iconic ferris wheel. It features “Magic Inside” technology that changes colour and lighting patterns as you wander around Disney California Adventure and Disneyland.
The lighting effects are designed to enhance storytelling in certain lands and attractions, and will apparently sync with nighttime spectaculars – though Disney hasn’t specified exactly which locations trigger reactions or what those reactions will look like.
Disney shared a fun video to celebrate:

The bucket goes on sale 6th February while supplies last. For the first three days, it’ll only be available through mobile order at Hollywood Lounge and Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta, before rolling out to Fairfax Market, Mortimers Market, and select popcorn carts around the park.
It’s part of Disney California Adventure’s 25th anniversary celebrations, which also include the return of Soarin’ Over California and Humphrey the Bear’s parks debut.
Disney has experimented with interactive merchandise before – most notably MagicBand+ at Walt Disney World – but this appears to be the first time they’ve built the technology into a novelty food container.
