After more than 25 years of entertaining guests, It’s Tough to Be a Bug has officially closed at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The 3D show, which took visitors deep into the world of Disney and Pixar’s A Bug’s Life, had its final performance on 16th March 2025.

Now, the Tree of Life Theater will undergo a transformation to make way for an exciting new Zootopia-themed show.

The End of an Era

Since opening with Animal Kingdom in 1998, It’s Tough to Be a Bug immersed audiences in the perspective of the insect world. With Flik as their guide, guests experienced the trials and tribulations of being a bug – complete with stunning 3D effects, in-theatre surprises, and a few creepy crawlies along the way.

Despite its longevity, the attraction had been on borrowed time. Rumours of a Zootopia takeover had been circulating for months, and now Disney has confirmed that the show will soon be replaced by Zootopia: Better Zoogether!, a brand-new adventure based on the hit 2016 film.

Zootopia: Better Zoogether!

While Disney has yet to release full details, the upcoming Zootopia show is expected to bring guests into the vibrant, animal-filled metropolis introduced in the film. The Tree of Life Theater will be reimagined with updated visuals, storytelling, and cutting-edge special effects to immerse visitors in the world of Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde, and other fan-favourite characters.

The announcement aligns with Disney’s ongoing efforts to refresh Animal Kingdom, bringing new experiences while maintaining the park’s focus on wildlife and conservation.

What’s Next?

With construction beginning soon, Disney has not yet announced an opening date for the new Zootopia attraction. However, given the popularity of the franchise and its expansion in other Disney parks – such as Zootopia Land in Shanghai Disneyland – excitement is already building.

For now, fans of It’s Tough to Be a Bug will have to say goodbye to the beloved show, but an exciting new adventure is just around the corner.
