Universal Destinations & Experiences has unveiled the seven themed lands that will make up Universal Kids Resort when it opens in 2026 in Frisco, Texas.
The resort, specifically designed for families with young children, will feature lands based on DreamWorks’ Shrek, Puss in Boots, and Trolls, Illumination’s Minions, Jurassic World, Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants, and an original concept called Isle of Curiosity.
Molly Murphy, President of Universal Creative, said in a press release:
“Universal Kids Resort embodies the spirit of igniting thrill that drives everything we create — designed to bring our youngest guests and families together through play, creativity, and beloved characters and stories… It’s a destination made for kids and, as a regional theme park, brings Universal’s signature storytelling to families close to home.”
Seven Lands
Guests will enter through Isle of Curiosity, a whimsical gateway featuring a meet-and-greet with Gabby from DreamWorks’ Gabby’s Dollhouse and a dance party experience.
DreamWorks’ Shrek’s Swamp transforms the ogre’s home into a water-based play area for his triplets, with two interactive zones: Shrek’s Swamp Rompin’ Stomp and Shrek’s Swamp Splash & Smash. Guests will be able to meet Shrek and Fiona, as well as photograph the onion carriage from the films.
DreamWorks’ Puss in Boots Del Mar includes carnival games Barriles de Leche and El Gato’s Meow, alongside character meet-and-greets with Puss, Mama Luna, and Perrito.
Illumination’s Minions vs. Minions: Bello Bay Club pits Yellow Minions against their Purple counterparts in water-based competitions. Families can participate in the action or watch from the sidelines, with interactive play areas throughout.
Jurassic World Adventure Camp offers encounters with newly hatched baby dinosaurs and Lookout Towers play area, providing elevated views across the park.
DreamWorks’ TrollsFest features meet-and-greets with Poppy, Branch, and other characters, alongside two interactive play areas: Poppy’s Playland and Trolls Critter Crawl.
Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants Bikini Bottom includes character encounters with SpongeBob, Patrick Star, and Sandy Cheeks, as well as themed play zones Mussel Beach and Pineapple Paradise.
Play-Focused Design
Brian Robinson, Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer at Universal Creative, explained the resort’s design philosophy: “We envisioned this park through the unbridled creativity of kids where infinite imagination, curiosity and free-spirited play were core to our design philosophies. It produced a park that’s pure joy and an absolute celebration of what it is to be a kid.”
Robinson added that team members will actively facilitate play throughout the resort: “We’re even going to support play with team members who will help kids dream up imaginary worlds with sidewalk chalk or spray themselves silly with water blasters. From blowing bubbles to belly laughs, there will be fun for kids of all ages and interests.”
The resort will also feature multiple sensory gardens designed to provide calming spaces for families throughout the day.
On-Site Hotel
A 300-room hotel will sit adjacent to the park, serving as the entrance to Universal Kids Resort. The property has been designed with families in mind, though specific amenities have not yet been detailed.
Universal has confirmed that further information about attractions, entertainment, merchandise, and dining will be announced in the coming months.
