Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue at Disney California Adventure will remain open into 2027, Disney has announced, delaying the previously planned early 2026 closure.
The attraction was scheduled to close to make way for Pandora – World of Avatar, which will transform a portion of the Hollywood Backlot area in Hollywood Land. Disney said the extended operating period considers younger families who have limited ride options at the park.
Disney maintains the delay will not affect the Pandora – World of Avatar timeline, though the resort has not announced an opening date for the new land.
Monsters, Inc. Background
Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue opened in 2006, replacing Superstar Limo as part of Disney California Adventure’s first major reimagining phase. The dark ride follows Mike and Sulley as they attempt to return Boo to her bedroom.
Whilst the attraction will close on the West Coast, a Monsters, Inc. door coaster is under construction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida as part of a Monstropolis land replacing the former Muppets Courtyard area.
Pandora – World of Avatar
The new Avatar-themed area will occupy part of the current Hollywood Backlot at Disney California Adventure, though Disney has not revealed specific attractions, size, or an opening timeframe for the project.
