Exciting Big Thunder Mountain Refurbishment Details Revealed for WDW

Walt Disney World has revealed new details about Big Thunder Mountain Railroad’s refurbishment ahead of its spring reopening at Magic Kingdom.

The attraction will feature:

• All-New Ride Vehicles: Brand-new trains will replace the existing fleet, marking the first complete vehicle replacement since the attraction opened in 1980.
• Refreshed Audio-Animatronics: The mine’s inhabitants and animal figures will receive technical updates and refurbishment throughout the ride.
• Updated Storyline: The narrative will focus on the mountain itself pushing back against miners, adding a new, thrilling element.
• Gold Props: For the first time, visible gold props will appear on the mountain, reinforcing the mining theme and story elements.

Disney has not announced a specific reopening date beyond spring 2026. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed for the extensive refurbishment in January 2025, marking one of the longest closures for a Magic Kingdom headliner attraction.
