Walt Disney World has shared first details about the refurbishment of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin ahead of its spring reopening at Magic Kingdom.
The Tomorrowland attraction will feature:
- New Alien Figure: A fresh animatronic alien will operate the airlock at the ride’s opening sequence, replacing the previous effect.
- Updated Space Battle Animation: The climactic space battle scene receives all-new animation sequences, modernising the visual technology from the attraction’s 1998 debut.
- Buzz Lightyear Joins the Action: For the first time, Buzz Lightyear himself will appear as part of the space battle scene, actively participating rather than only appearing in pre-show and post-ride areas.

A firm reopening date remains unconfirmed, though Disney has committed to a spring 2026 return. The interactive dark ride has been sending Space Rangers on missions to defeat Emperor Zurg since opening in 1998, with guests scoring points by blasting laser targets as their vehicles spin through Star Command headquarters.
