The winds of change are blowing through Animal Kingdom: Disney issues a DinoLand destruction update.
As announced during last year’s D23, the beloved prehistoric-themed area will close to usher in the expansive and exciting Tropical Americas destination. But don’t panic just yet – there’s still time to take one last trip back to the Cretaceous period before the dinosaurs vanish for good.
When is DinoLand U.S.A. Closing?

Much of DinoLand will remain open through 2025, giving you plenty of time to revisit fan favourites like DINOSAUR, the Boneyard, and Restaurantosaurus. But don’t delay – the countdown to extinction is on.
Come 2026, the Dino Institute will officially close its doors, with construction on Tropical Americas already underway and set to open in 2027.
What’s Already Closed?
The transformation has already begun. As of 12th January 2025, several classic DinoLand staples have closed their doors, including:
- TriceraTop Spin
- Fossil Fun Games
- Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures
But fear not – you can still grab Animal Kingdom souvenirs at Island Mercantile, Discovery Trading Company, and the Dino Institute Shop. For now.
Your Last Chance to Ride DINOSAUR

The iconic DINOSAUR will stay open through 2025, meaning there’s still time for one final expedition. Meanwhile, the Boneyard continues to welcome aspiring palaeontologists to dig and play until its closure next year.
Restaurantosaurus is also still serving up its fan-favourite bites. And, for a sweet treat, Dino-Bites Snacks still offers their famous ice cream sandwiches – a perfect way to cool off between adventures.
DinoLand Destruction Update: What’s Replacing DinoLand?

Out: fossils. In: fiestas! The new Tropical Americas land will transport guests to a lush 11-acre world inspired by the vibrant cultures of Central and South America. This richly themed area, known as Pueblo Esperanza, will boast two marquee attractions:
- Indiana Jones Adventure: Embark on a heart-racing journey with Indy himself as he searches for a mythical creature hidden deep within an ancient temple. Disney promises this will be a thrilling, never-before-seen take on the beloved archaeologist’s adventures.
- Encanto Ride-Through Attraction: Step inside the magical world of “Encanto” and experience the charm of the Madrigal family home in the first-ever ride dedicated to the hit Disney Animation Studios film.
Beyond the attractions, guests can look forward to a sprawling hacienda, one of the largest quick-service restaurants at Walt Disney World Resort, and a working carousel crafted by a local woodcarver featuring beloved Disney animals.
