Donkey Kong Country Opens at Super Ninendo World, Universal Studios Japan
Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan just levelled UP! After a short delay, Donkey Kong Country has finally opened at the park on December 11, 2024.
The jungle-filled area was unveiled in a spectacular ceremony led by Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto, Universal Studios Japan CEO J.L. Bonnier, and some very special guests: Mario and Donkey Kong himself. Yes, the big ape was there to welcome fans to his new stomping ground!
Speaking at the grand opening, Mr. Miyamoto shared his excitement: “The jungle beyond this tunnel is full of our passion, which we worked hard to bring to life alongside Universal Studios Japan and Universal Creative. There are many elements throughout the land where you can find gameplay and design inspired by the world of Donkey Kong. I believe it is a land that can be enjoyed by the whole family.”
A Bananas Opening Ceremony
The event kicked off in classic Nintendo style with Mr. Miyamoto and Mr. Bonnier counting down to the big moment. The duo, along with Mario and Donkey Kong ushered guests through an iconic tunnel – a fitting gateway to the lush, vibrant jungle of Donkey Kong Country.
Inside, visitors were greeted by a world that feels ripped straight from the video games, complete with palm trees, rolling terrain, and barrels galore. The immersive environment is jam-packed with playful nods to classic Donkey Kong games.
What’s Inside Donkey Kong Country?
Donkey Kong Country brings a fun new coaster, plus plenty of food and merchandise opportunities. Here’s what to expect:
- Mine-Cart Madness: This family-friendly coaster is a high-speed romp through a chaotic jungle landscape. Riders can expect twists, turns, and a whole lot of “whoa!” as they zip through the vibrant scenery.
- Meet Rambi the Rhinoceros: Fans of the games will delight in seeing Rambi brought to life. This beloved sidekick is ready to make a splash (or a stampede?) in this interactive experience.
- Themed Food and Shopping: Hungry adventurers can refuel with snacks inspired by the Donkey Kong universe, and the gift shop is packed with exclusive merchandise to commemorate your jungle journey.
